How Pink Dragon glass panel was made for the Pink Dragon Study Room by Katherine Newman for Kips Bay Decorator Show House
Twenty-three best North American interior designers decorate a townhouse in the Upper East Side for 2019 edition of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House. This is one of the most important show houses in the USA. I, as a stained glass artist am excited to bring my tiny part to the show through collaboration with Kathrine Newman Design. Her Pink Dragon Study Room
Katherine Newman decided to name her office room “The Pink Dragon Study” in reference to the environment's auspicious strength. It’s a fitting choice, considering that issues of sustainability were at the heart of Newman’s thought process. Moreover, she aimed to create a room that was classic yet modern, by mixing works from different styles and periods. (The diversity is evident elsewhere as well, from the geometric marquetry that helped inform the walls to the bronze butterfly clips that can be seen.) The designers who have pieces included form an all-star list unto itself.
From the first look, I loved that little funky happy creature. Even though this kind of work is not typical for my practice the technical task was intricate. This is not possible to cut many glass parts by hand as the glass could brake during cutting, so we used here a water jet to cut the glass.
Here are some steps of stained glass panel fabrication for Katherine Newman Design
